Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA)

Every institution such as hospitals, clinics and dental offices that collects healthcare information must comply with this act to ensure all patient records are safe and confidential during storage and after it has been destroyed. Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act (FACTA)

The primary purpose of FACTA is to reduce the risk of identity theft by regulating how consumer account information (such as Social Security numbers) is handled. This law applies to every business in order to eliminate the risk of fraud and identity theft. A company can face a fine of upto $2500 per file for improperly disposed confidential information.

Red Flags Rule

To fight identity theft, this rule was developed for business and organizations to implement a written identity theft prevention program for their day-to-day operations to prevent the crime of identity theft from happening. An estimated 9 million Americans have their identity stolen each year, the Red Flags Rule is an effective measure to prevent this from happening.
